Ebony and ivory cake


This is my dad's favorite cake. Moist chocolate cake with a creamy vanilla buttercream frosting. Post a link to another recipe or group by pasting the url into the box where you want it to show up.

In a large mixing bowl, sift together flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Add sugar and whisk until combined. Add eggs, coffee, buttermilk, vanilla, and oil.


Pour batter into prepared cake pans. Bake for minutes or until inserted toothpick comes out clean. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and vanilla extract until creamy. Beat on low speed until combined. Slowly add milk while beating until mixture reaches desired spreading consistency. Turn mixer to high and whip frosting for two minutes.

Spread on cake layers. Frosting makes a great filling for homemade whoopie pies and Ebony and ivory cake cookies.
